6.8% ABV, Can
Appearance: Light golden with medium carbonation, pours with no head.
Aroma: Immediate sweet apple scent. Although I can usually pickup the cinnamon spiciness and pecans, it took two whiffs this time — the spices, nuttiness and apples blend for a wonderful aroma.
Taste: First apple. Next cinnamon and spice. Finally pecans. Then the three linger in unison. How does Vander Mill perfect this so well? It mostly leaves a sweetness on the tongue with a slight alcohol at the end.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied with some silkiness.
There is good reason Totally Roasted is Vander Mill’s highest-selling canned cider. This cider is wholly unique, yet traditional. It adds just a hint of autumn sweetness to a classic, dry cider. Once again, Vander Mill shows us sweet with out going overboard. It’s amazing to get so much flavor in each drink with this cider. I intentionally went canned on this one, but did pour it into a glass. I highly recommend a glass for the canned ciders because you catch a more full flavor by letting your nose dive into it. Not to mention the site of the cider — use all your senses whenever possible.
“(Totally) Roasted is one if our most popular ciders — and also a pain in the ass to make,” owner Paul Vander Heide said. “It takes over 60 pounds of roasted pecans per 30 barrel batch — all roasted in-house five pounds at a time.”
