Appearance: Clear, deep auburn pour with a rapidly dissipating off-white head.
Aroma: Fruity with a nose full of piney, almost sprucey, hop smell and a peppery undertow.
Taste: Alcohol is well hidden in a tangy, acidic cornucopia of orange, tangerine and apricot flavors, topped with a spicy note of peppercorn.
Mouthfeel: Medium-heavy body.
Produced every year since 2009, Short’s “Anni” Ale is a high-gravity wheat wine made with blood orange zest and green peppercorn, which both come through in the beer’s tangy and spicy flavors. A medium-heavy malt profile helps to balance the fruit and pepper notes as well as a healthy dose of citrusy Simcoe bitterness. This is not a beer for everyone, but if you’re in the mood for something different, it’s one of the smoother near-10% ABV brews you’re likely to find.
