New Holland’s The Poet is a great example on how an oatmeal stout can be kicked up a notch. It’s got great balance between sweet and bitter, featuring lots of oat flavors rounded out by chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Overall it’s very inviting. While The Poet is typically a winter stout, I have no problem enjoying it on a brisk summer night. It’s definitely one of my go-to beers, as it’s very drinkable and enticing with most meals.
