Appearance: Reddish-brown, somewhat clear. Small-to-medium sized head.
Aroma: Fruity and a bit of maple
Taste: A bit like dried fruit, but also malt, vanilla and caramel. There’s a bit of oak present as well.
Mouthfeel: Heavy for an ale, with a decent amount of carbonation.
Founders Old Curmudgeon Ale is certainly a treat — with dried fruit, malt, caramel, vanilla and other spices present, this ale doesn’t disappoint. A bit on the darker side of ales, this brew pours a reddish-brown with a decent sized head.
It immediately reminds me of a lighter version of Curmudgeon’s Better Half, one of Founders’ Backstage Series special brews. There’s a hint of maple to it that lingers after each sip, making for a somewhat richer ale.
